Uninstall Windows Photo Gallery

Uninstall Windows Photo Gallery

Postby mancub » Tue Aug 26, 2008 8:09 am

I recently installed the updated Windows Live, including Windows Photo
Gallery and how I wish I hadn't! Ever since the installation I keep getting
a box on the screen saying that the system is configuring Photo Gallery and
then that it can't find the file "Photo Gallery.msi" and asking me to locate
it. Well I don't have it and my PC (running XP Medai Centre) doesn't have it
and never needed it before I installed Windows Photo Gallery, so why doesn't
Windows have it.

I've uninstalled Windows Live and Windows Live Photo Gallery but I keep
getting the same messages on the screen. I've also run the Windows Installer
debug software, but that dowsn't help either. I've seen earlier
correspondence on similar subjects and reference to HP Printer software
causing the problem, but I don't have an HP printer, so that hasn't caused my
problem.

I don't need Windows Photo Gallery, I was very happy with Picasa, but I
can't use Picasa without these annoying Photo Gallery warning appearing.

Please can someone tell me how to get rid of this problem and Windows Photo
Gallery for ever?!!

Photo gallery has NEVER worked on my laptop-it corrupts the screen and I have
to restart.
I have no problem with system resources-I have an ATI 128mb graphx card with
latest drivers, 1gb ram, 120gb HD.
I run with no problems Adobe photoshop elements 5 and Adobe premier elements
5, I can also play COD2 and other resource hungry games and watch DVD videos.
Any advice on how to 'get rid' of this nuisance will be gratefully received.
I have photoshop as the default picture file viewer but when I receive
pictures in emails then, for some reason, vista will launch photo gallery to
view them-very annoying!

Not able to remove or uninstall an application in Windows XP using either the Uninstall option or the Add/Remove Programs tool? Try using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. As long as you installed the application using the Windows Installer, this utility will remove all the folders, files, registry keys, and entries from your system and allow you to start over with a clean slate.

Here's how:

1. Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from the Microsoft Download Center.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe
2. Locate and run msicuu2.exe to install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.
3. Locate and launch the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility on the Start menu.
4. From the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility window, locate the application in the list (PHOTO GALLERY) and click the Remove button.
5. Once the application has been removed, click the Exit button to close the utility.
