Event Id: 11165 failed to register host (A) resource records

Event Id: 11165 failed to register host (A) resource records

Postby mancub » Mon Feb 12, 2007 9:26 am

Do you know how to resolve this issue?

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: DnsApi
Event Category: None
Event ID: 11165
Date: 2/12/2007
Time: 1:57:52 AM
User: N/A
Computer: SRV-2K3-PDC
Description:
The system failed to register host (A) resource records (RRs) for network adapter
with settings:

   Adapter Name : {820F5967-C606-453E-BB42-36AF6C0253F7}
   Host Name : server
   Primary Domain Suffix : arightclick.com
   DNS server list :
      89.32.5.74, 89.32.5.75
   Sent update to server :
   IP Address(es) :
     10.32.1.40

The reason the system could not register these RRs was because the DNS server contacted refused the update request. The reasons for this might be (a) you are not allowed to update the specified DNS domain name, or (b) because the DNS server authoritative for this name does not support the DNS dynamic update protocol.

To register the DNS host (A) resource records using the specific DNS domain name and IP addresses for this adapter, contact your DNS server or network systems administrator.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Causes and Resolutions: 1. The computer may use the ISP DNS. You should setup the internal DNS Server address as primary address for clients.

2. The computer has already registered A record in DNS. Remove the A record from the DNS.

3. If you use a single-label DNS name in your environment, clients may not be able to dynamically register DNS records in a single-label forward lookup zone.

4. There is a network connectivity issue.

5. The zone file is not configured to accept updates.

6. The computer’s Primary DNS Suffix is different from the domain name.

Use the ipconfig /registerdns command to register the computer's network name and address with a DNS server and then check the event log for errors.

To perform this procedure, you must have membership in Administrators, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To register the computer's network name and address with a DNS server:

1. On the DNS client, open a command prompt. To open an elevated Command Prompt window, click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:

ipconfig /registerdns

Wait 15 minutes, and then check the event log to verify that a DNSapi event with an ID in the range 11150 through 11167 was not logged after you ran the command.

Right-click my computer>Properties>Computername>Change>all (or details)

Make sure "enable dns suffix bla bla" is checked.

Write yourdomain.xxx in the line,

click OK then restart the computer
