When I sign onto iChat - I am online and can send messages out. I cannot see replies though. When anyone responds to messages, nothing pops up on screen. In fact, chat window doesn't even display the messages I am sending - it only shows "..." as though I am still typing. But the recipient receives the message. Video and Audio chat are working fine.

You need too delete your settings file. It will be automatically recreated next time you log in.

Go to Users/(your account)/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.ichat.plist.

Restart iChat.

Running....

/Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat -errorLogLevel 7

in Terminal after shutting down iChat first can pinpoint things a little further.
Crash Logs can also tell you if is trying to read something from one of the two support folders (expected in....) which may indicate a specific folder.

Remember to quit iChat first or you will get this message:

This is because iCaht is already running and debug cant connect to port.
